AVG free antivirus software

My friend had told me that you get AVG antivirus software from the internet for free and they do a pretty good job with spyware and other types of viruses. I have installed them in my personal laptop and waiting to see if this does a good job. I had virus in my laptop and I had gotten the C drive formatted as it was affected by spyware. All these entered my mac through my pen drive which was infected from an external DTP shop who had viruses in their machine and lied to me that there were no viruses. So everyone beware! if you are trying to take printouts from outside shops.
